North America
1. Big cypress swamp

Biotope description:
This is a huge, regularly flooded wetland located on the western edge
of the Everglades, Florida, USA. Dense thickets of swamp cypress
(Taxodium distichum) with conical aerial roots (pneumatophores) covering
a large amount of sub-tropical sun, moist climate form a special,
mysterious piece of nature, a great biotope for the inhabitants of the
underwater world. Slow or no flow, humic water of the cypress swamp are
indicators of acidity and hardness at the medium level, changes can be
caused by different types of soils. The look of the biotope formed by
peat and sand substrate of dark color, rows of vertical aerial roots of
swamp cypress and dense thickets of marsh plants that can survive the
dry season. As inhabitants a few medium-sized species of fish and crabs
can be mentioned, who peacefully co-exist in different layers of the
biotope. Between the leaves and stems of plants there are tiny Elassomas
and Heterandria formosa searching for small live food, the more massive
Jordanella floridae eats algae closer to the surface, and the dwarf
marsh crabs are looking for food on the bottom, among the fallen
branches and foliage.

Biotope description:
The black water of Rio Negro during the rainy season floods the jungle
for a few months, joining the river bed with oxbow lakes, swamps,
creeks. A light sand here is not visible, it is silty and abundantly
covered with foliage. Here, among the roots of trees, Cabomba, brought
over here, is intertwined with semi-aquatic Ludwigia, providing
excellent shelter for fishes. Water is literally full of microorganisms,
an excellent food for young fishes.

Biotope description:
Chad is a very shallow lake with a very flat bottom (and its surface is
not constant). Even in the greatest flood its depths never exceed 4
meters. Once in the basin of the main tributary of the Shari there is
heavy rainfall and the river brings a lot of water to the lake, Chad
immediately grows, flooding vast areas of flat low-lying coasts. And
during the low water in Shari, the lake level is lowered and the area
gets quickly smaller. Despite of these metamorphoses, the lake is the
only large body of water in Central Africa. The water in different parts
of the Lake Chad has different mineralization: in most parts it is
salted, and fresh near the mouths of rivers. Scientists explain lower
mineralization of water by the constant change of water in the lake due
to the outflow of the lower layers of water to the underground. The
western and southern shores are low, swampy and covered with dense
vegetation, northern and eastern ones are cut up. There are many sandy
islands formed by flooded dunes here. The most common species of water
plants are Cyperus papyrus, Aeschynomene elaphroxylon, water lilies and
reeds, Ceratophyllum demersum. The bottom is mostly sandy with silt
brought by the waters of the Chari.

Biotope description:
The aquarium was set up on regional exhibition, AkTer FEST. Its a
non-profit volunteer Aquaristic and Terraristic themed exhibition. It
main purpose was to educate visitors about natural habitat of Tanichthys
albonubes, environmental threats and role of aquarium keeper in
protection of endangered species. Aquarium presents fast and shallow
creek, surrounded with marginal vegetation and fallen branches. Marginal
stones are covered with moss species. There is also some Blyxa japonica
and Rotala sp.

Biotope description:
Mamberamo is a river on the north-west New Guinea island, in the
Indonesian province of Papua. The valley of the Mamberamo River is home
to many indigenous peoples of New Guinea, including those who previously
had no contact with Western civilization. It is also known for its
great biodiversity. Poorly studied region, where except the first
researcher Franssen Herderschee Heiko Bleher came with his team. The
biotope was reconstructed using the results of his research. River
bottom is covered with white sand, driftwood, there are ferns Microsorum
pteropus, Nymphaea here.

The initial idea was to make a mini with that aspect aquariums with
African cichlids, Lake Tanganyika, more specifically the existence of
plants. For decoration I used white sand and gray rocks on a dark blue
background and 4w LED lighting. No filter so I do 50% weekly changes.
This mini aquarium is a hobby that becomes training for the assembly of
other higher learning to provide depth in tight spaces and choosing
materials and plants appropriate to the size of the container.
